A health warning has been issued for Waihī Estuary at Pukehina because of a bloom of potentially toxic algae.

A new health warning has been issued today for Lake Waahi, due to a rise in cyanobacteria levels. Lakes Whangape, Waikare and Ngaroto also continue to have cyanobacterial health warnings in place. Lake Hakanoa the other lake that is tested regularly, currently remains below the warning level for cyanobacteria.
Waikato DHB is aware that there are people in Kawhia that are worried they or their whanau may have been exposed to TB (tuberculosis). We want to reassure the Kawhia community that we have no information that indicates any current TB infection risk (in Kawhia or elsewhere). People in Kawhia do not need to do anything different than they normally do, or than people in other parts of NZ do.
