Junior doctor demands put patients at risk

Over the past 12 months the political turmoil in the northern hemisphere has once again demonstrated the truth of old adage – an untruth told often enough becomes the truth.

The current campaign by the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) on behalf of junior doctors (RMOs) for shorter hours is based on the notion that patient safety in our hospitals is being compromiesed as “tired doctors make mistakes”. No doubt, tired doctors can potentially make mistakes, but there is virtually no evidence that this is putting patients at risk.
