Four miracles defeat couple’s cancer double whammy

Russell Bishop owes his life to a series of miracles.

Not miracles of the religious kind. These ones are more about good luck, as well as good medical management at Waikato Hospital that saw him become one of the earliest in the world to trial a new chemotherapy approach. Enabling him to beat an unbeatable cancer.

For the first miracle, though, it was sheer good luck that he got himself home to Hamilton from Istanbul when he did. If he’d left his departure even a day later, he reckons he’d have been in so much pain he’d have never got on the flight and he’d have died in unfamiliar territory.
