A nurse nominated by her peers who demonstrates the skills, knowledge, caring and compassion at a level that exceeds the norm will tomorrow, on International Nurses Day, be acknowledged by Sue Hayward, Waikato District Health Board’s director of nursing and midwifery during a celebration day at Waikato Hospital.
The winner remains under wraps although aposted on YouTube by Waikato DHB hints that the nurse may be unable to attend the presentation in person.
The criteria for the award was that the nominee be a registered nurse who contributed and made a real difference to the area they work in. This difference would be related to improved patient safety, patient experience and the way nurses in their area work. The nomination had to include the example or examples of how the nurse achieved this and what it meant for their nursing team. The award is for Waikato DHB nurses, wherever they work.
The award is one of a number of highlights taking place on International Nurses Day. They include a shared lunch, decorated reception areas, cook off competitions, sausage sizzle and a debate on the topic “Nurses: A force for change”.
