For many New Zealanders, a radical new diet doesn’t just happen. It takes a life-threatening medical emergency or diagnosis.

As part of Stuff’s Food for Thought series, they met four people from different parts of the country and different walks of life who turned their diet on its head. Because if they didn’t, the consequences could have been fatal.
